Chima Enwezor (b. 1962) Dublin, Ireland, started drawing and painting at an early age. He started bracing the idea of becoming an Architect or Designer at the age of six but never dreamt of becoming an Artist. In 1983, Chima attended Bowie State University, Bowie, Maryland, USA to study Design and Art History in the fields of painting, freehand drawing, sculpting, printmaking, photography, ceramics and graphic design. In 1984, he enrolled at Howard University, School of Architecture and Design, Washington DC, USA. After a couple of years of studying Architecture. He switched to the College of Fine Arts under the tutelage of renowned Art professors - Starmanda Bullock, Ed Love, Frank Smith, Winston Kennedy and Edgar Sorrels-Adewale. Chima uses paint to manipulate the space (surface) he works on while painting in rotational movements, which allows him to view and work his surfaces upside down. He has participated in several group and solo exhibitions in London, Atlanta, New York, Oakland CA, San Francisco and Washington DC, USA. Chima cites Jean Michel Basquiat, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Wilhelm de Kooning, Alberto Giacometti and Susan Wenger as major influences.
