Collection: Collins Abinoro 🇳🇬
Abinoro Akporode Collins (b. 1984), attended the School of Art and Design, Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State where he obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Painting and General Art (2009) and graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Sculpture (2012) as the overall best graduating student. Collins draws inspiration from his environment, depicting these experiences with his sculptures rendered in stainless steel cutlery, fibre glass and bronze. His art is a mix of classical, highly conceptualized and repurposed materials. By repurposing materials, he gives new meaning to materials thereby preventing them from being discarded. For almost a decade, cutlery has been the medium that he experiments with the most. He uses cutlery to achieve unimaginable sculptures clearly depicting mind-blowing forms and details in his work at the same time, is able to twist his subjects to engage issues in his environment. He has exhibited widely within and outside Nigeria. In 2013, he made it to the grand finale of the ‘Life in my City’ competition, Nigeria. In 2014, he participated in the African Art Month Residency and Exhibition and he also participated at the Historical Festival by Art Hub in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Collins was a guest artist at the King Abdulazeez Camel Festival in Saudi Arabia along with other 43 international artists in 2019. He exhibited at Rele Art Gallery in Lagos ‘Material Times’ (2019). He was recently acknowledged and featured on BBC News for his impressive art pieces created with spoons.
